A huge drop of Internet Viruses

ScanSafe’s analytical data demonstrated that Web viruses dropped down 47 per cent in September even though Microsoft vulnerabilities appeared high-profile recently.
This analytical result surprised ScanSafe as they thought that they may see an increase when they paid attention to Microsoft vulnerabilities and zero-day exploits.
The internet virus disaster didn’t happen in September.

However, apart from its data on Web viruses ScanSafe reported that spyware and adware rose 21 per cent in September and that eight per cent of the spyware blocks were to prevent already infected PCs from ‘calling home’ or transmitting outbound to a spyware domain. The data in August showed that web viruses rose 23 per cent while spyware decreased 12 per cent. Is there seasonality to Web viruses and spyware?
Tuvey said. ‘We fully anticipate a jump in malware as consumers go online to start their holiday shopping.’
